This article presents a new method of optical tolerancing which can improve the qualty of a system and increase productive benefits. By means of the orthogonal-test method, some strict tolerances can be relaxed and aberrations compensated. Initial tolerances are first determined reasonably with the improvement of Songluetolerancing method. The orthogonal-test methodis used to produce a set of favorable tolerance combinations which makes an excellent compensation for aberration. The basicprinciple and primary processes of the new mew method are discussed in detail. A photo-objective is given to illustratethe tolerancing results.
