Design is interative in nature. Dimensioning of a component must be modified many times during the design cycle.This paper focuses on the results of a research effort to the development of an expert system that assists the designer in deciding the optimal layout of the dimensions of turned components. With the development of the system some key problems in the expert system in mechanical engineering are dealt with,and investigated theoretically.The performance of the system is verified by a number of tests.
