This paper presents a new concept of CIMS stracture bated on Autonomous Manufacturing Islands (AMI), The AMI is a new manufacturing, model in the 90's, The information science and the decisive role of human beings occupy a prominent place in the philosophy of AMI, AMI may consist of several CNC machines and conventional machines, different types of material transpotation and storages. A team of skilful works using the equipment and supported by the computer system establish a new manufacturing system for certain part families. The concept, functions, system structure and the principle of organization of CIMS based on AMI are discussed. The working principle and the trend of supporting software are described.
