Abstract:This thesis deals with the origins, changes and present conditions of borrowed words in German, throwing light not only on the influence upon German by other languages, esp. those in Western Europe such as Latin,Greek, and English, but also on the role of borrowed words in general and the impact of culture on linguistic exchange. The authoress points it out that interlinguistic infiltration is independent of man's will in social development and that much more linguistic influence between nations can be expected in the 21 St century because of the highly developed science and technology, and the unprecedented scale of exchange of information.
