A connection management method suitable for client/server communications in foundation fieldbus is presented. Wits this method the application of synchronized clocks to fieldbus is extended and the client/server communications are endowed with the following characteristics: (1) no proprietary message for connection setup or release, (2) no connection setup latency, (3) immediate resumption of communication after a fieldbus device failure.
