The area surrounded by object contour in digital images plays an important role in image analysis and pattern recognition. The vertex-chain-code is a powerful tool in image processing to evaluate region areas. For the digital images in square, triangular and hexagonal lattices, the methods of calculating region areas from vertex-chain-code of the region boundaries are formulated respectively.
