Abstract:The pupil zonal phase modulation method used in high-density optical storage is analysede and compared with the optics apodization method. Researches show that in the method, decreasing the size of the light spot is at the cost of increasing remarkably the relative size of the main spot versus the side spot. Its effect is comparable to that of using optics apodization method. However, for the light detector with high threshold, the pupil zonal phase modulation method is better than the optics apodization method.
