In order to build a three-dimensional (3D) face contour precisely,a 3D model method of in- verse identification is presented based on laser scanning and CAD/CAM technology.A commercial laser scanner system is used to acquire thousands of 3D discrete point data (so-called"cloud of points") of a facial plaster model, which are then processed to make a 3D face reconstrution. The reconstructive errors are from 0.01 mm to 0.2 mm,and the maximum error is located at the surface section with maximum curvature.Application results indicate that the proposed method is quite satisiactory for facial reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation design.
