Abstract:Power engineering and engineering thermalphysics is one of the main disciplines in USST. The research level of professors engaged in this discipline plays a key role for the development of this discipline. The h-index is a new method to evaluate the research level of scientists, and is used to evaluate the research level of those professors based on the data collected from the Web of Science and China Knowledge Resource Integrated Data Base (CNKI). The results were compared with the other 11 domestic representative universities. It shows that the overall academic influences of those professors in our university are better than 2012 evaluation result from Ministry of Education. But compared with other universities, the low proportion of professors with high academic influence (h index ≥ 20) is low and the average academic influence is not high. The lack of associate professors with high academic influence (h index ≥ 10) is also found, as well as low average international academic influence. These will strongly affected the development of the discipline in USST.
