Abstract:Power engineering and engineering thermalphysics is one of the main disciplines in shanghai University for Science and Technology (USST).The research level of professors engaging in this discipline plays a key role for the discipline development.The h-index is a new method to evaluate the research level of scientists,and was used to evaluate the research level of those professors based on the data collected from the Web of Science and China Knowledge Resource Integrated Data Base (CNKI).The results were compared with those of other 11 domestic representative universities.It shows that the overall academic influences of those professors in USST are better than the 2012 discipline evaluation result from the Ministry of Education.But compared with other universities,the proportion of professors with high academic influence(h index ≥ 20)is low and the average academic influence is not high.The lack of associate professors with high academic influence(h index ≥ 10)is also found,and this brings low average international academic influence.These will strongly affect the development of the discipline in USST.
