Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are widely utilized in our country. However, the associated study about its resource potential analysis is still short of in variant districts.Based on the existed data about solar radiation and conversion efficiency, methods for photovoltaic potential assessment were established. An experiment platform for three common kinds of solar photovoltaic systems was developed for the purpose of analyzing the relationship between conversion efficiency and environmental parameters.A calculating formula for conversion efficiency and solar radiation intensity was fitted. With the help of the spatial analysis function of the geographic information system (GIS) platform, the frequency distribution of solar radiation intensity and the solar PV electricity potential in China were derived. The analytical results show that monocrystalline-silicon PV electricity in northwestern and northern areas have reached a level of more than 200 kWh/(m2·a),making those areas be suitable for the development of PV system. However, the potential in southwest areas reaches a level of only 130 kWh/(m2·a).This can provide a baseline reference for solar energy development planning.
