Abstract:Shield tunneling in soft soils will inevitably disturb strata deformation, which causes additional deformation and even local cracking for adjacent buildings.Considering the different horizontal distance between the longitudinal axes of tunnels and buildings, the deformation behavior of masonry structures with shallow foundation induced by tunnel excavation was analyzed by establishing a 3D finite element model. Some deflection characteristics were emphasized in the analysis, including the horizontal displacement of foundation, the relative deflection characteristics and the distribution of tensile strain in walls. The results show that when the excavation face moves to the central line of a building, the relative settlement of the building foundation reaches the peak value, while the absolute settlement of the building foundation reaches the maximum value after the excavation is completed. With the increasing of relative distance between tunnel and building center line, the relative flexure of the cross wall will appear successively in the form of sagging deformation, "∽" deformation and hogging deformation. When the sagging deformation and hogging deformation arrive at their maximum values, the tensile strain in the cross walls reaches its peak value. The distribution of principle tensile strain in the longitudinal wall varies with the location of excavation face. When the excavation face is located at the central line of the building, the tensile strain in longitudinal walls reaches its peak value.
