A thermal control equipment using phase change material was designed for the laser payload in the space craft landing on the moon. The ANSYS was used to analyze the mechanical properties of the equipment theoretically. An experimental apparatus was constructed to obtain the mechanical properties experimentally under different vibration conditions and different temperature and vacuum conditions. The effects of gravity and heating power on the temperature rise characteristics of the equipment were investigated experimentally. The experimental results reveal that the temperature rises more slowly as the phase change material stays at two-phase state rather than the single state. It's also found that during the two-phase state, the heat absorbed by the material is much more than that at the single state.Furthermore, the lasting time is much longer during the two-phase state than that at the single state. In addition, the effect of the natural convection on the heat transfer performance could be neglected during the phase change.
