Abstract:The flavoring effect of extracts of Hovenia dulcis fruit extracted with different concentration of ethanol on cigarettes was compared. The results show that 70% (volume fraction) ethanol extracts have the best flavoring effect. In order to understand its contribution to smoke during cigarette burning, the 70% ethanol extract of Hovenia dulcis fruit was pyrolyzed under simulated cigarette burning conditions. The pyrolysis products were analyzed by the pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) instrument. The results show that the pyrolysis products of 70% ethanol extract of Hovenia dulcis fruit mainly include organic acids 26.68%, furans 15.79%, pyranes 7.75%, alcohols 12.33%, ketones 9.56% and pyroles 4.78%. These compounds can reduce the irritation of smoke, make the smoke soft and delicate, enrich the smoke, enhance the aroma quality and quantity, and have obvious effect on improving the quality of cigarette products. Therefore, the 70% ethanol extract of Hovenia dulcis fruit can be used in the development of tobacco products.
