Abstract:The progress of relevant experimental and numerical studies on the lateral migration of neutrally buoyant particles in the Poiseuille flow were summarized and reviewed. It is found that the understanding about the behaviors of the lateral migration of particles is controversial and that the underlying mechanism of the lateral migration is still not well understood. Taking the advantages of the direct-forcing fictitious domain (DF/FD) method in accurately simulating the liquid-solid two-phase flow, the DF/FD method was used to numerically reproduce the lateral migration of a single particle under the Poiseuille flow condition in a circular pipe. On this basis, it is proposed that in future work, the DF/FD method should be used to comprehensively identify the dynamic behaviors of lateral migration of particles and to reveal the underlying mechanism of lateral migration.
