Abstract:The traditional detection methods of drug powder flowability can not distinguish the difference in the flowability of drug powders with similar physical properties. As a result, for the process, which is greatly affected by the powder flowability, the accurate methods for evaluting the properties of the materials are scarcel. To solve this problem, eight kinds of lactose were used as drug models to study the detection method of drug powder flowability based on vibratory micro-feeding technology. According to the mass flow rate of powder, velocity changes for continuous and intermittent discharge, etc. the relationship between the discharge velocity and process parameters was derived from the powder flow equation. The characteristic constant featuring flowability was given. The results show that this detection method of drug powder flowability based on vibratory micro-feeding technology is suitable for measuring and evaluating the powders with a median particle size of 20~135 μm. A clear distinction between the flowability of lactoses with similar physical properties within this particle size range can be achieved. This method has potential application in other more drug powders and is promising for industrial application.
