Abstract:Taylor vortexes were generated by installing a gas distributor at the bottom of a stirred tank reactor. The eddy current flow characteristics and mass transfer mechanism in the reactor were analyzed by numerical simulations and experiments. The results show that the evolution of Taylor vortex in stirred tank reactor with rotating Reynolds number is similar to that in a conventional Taylor reactor. Taylor vortexes generated in the stirred tank reactor create a partial horizontal push flow region in the original full mixed flow pattern, which reduces backmixing. The horizontal push flow area expands with the increase of rotating Reynolds number. Under the condition of critical rotating Reynolds number, the gas phase homogeneity of the reactor is increased by 28% and the dissolved oxygen rate is increased by about 5 times, which effectively improves the flow condition in the reactor and strengthens the mass transfer efficiency between gas and liquid. The research results provide a theoretical basis for breaking through the limitation of small reaction space of conventional Taylor flow reactor and expanding production scale, and the refit of kettle reactor is universal and easy to operate.
