Abstract:The trend of road travel reservation is gradually emerging as a crucial mode of transportation. In order to ensure the successful implementation of road travel reservation within the urban road traffic system, traffic control plays an exceedingly pivotal and protective role. Thus, this comprehensive review focused on the cutting-edge work in cooperative vehicle-infrastructure system traffic control pertaining to road travel reservation. With traffic control as the primary research theme, it encompassed a review of adaptive traffic control methods for road travel reservation, vehicle control to ensure the benefits of road travel reservation, and advanced research in control and service coordination. The findings reveal that, in comparison to conventional travel modes, road travel reservation places higher need on travel time reliability, necessitating traffic control to ensure the reliability of road travel reservation. Simultaneously, it is imperative to develop control methods that not only enhance the overall operational efficiency of the road network but also preserve the priority for individual reserved vehicles. Finally, it is essential to promote the integration of traffic control technology and service-oriented traffic management technology, achieving an organic fusion of traffic control and travel services.
